Using SignSpry on a phone

Signing works fully on a phone with no app to install. Placing fields on a document is easier on a laptop or tablet.

Signers can do everything on a phone, in the browser they already have. There is no app to install and nothing to download. As a sender, you can check on envelopes from a phone too, but laying out fields is better done on a larger screen.

Signing on a phone

The signing page is built for a narrow screen first. When a signer opens the emailed link:

  1. The document scales to fit the width. Under the document, a bar shows Fit to width with zoom out, zoom in and Fit buttons. Zoom goes up to 300 % in steps, and a signer can also pinch to zoom.
  2. A bar at the bottom guides them. It shows how many fields are done ("3 of 5 complete") and a Start signing button that becomes Next field, jumping to whatever is left. When everything is complete it becomes Finish.
  3. Signature and initials open a pad. They Draw with a finger or Type their name. Once adopted, the same signature fills their other signature fields.
  4. Other pages work in the same column: the access code page (This document is protected), the Confirm it's you code page, the language picker, comments and the More options menu with Decline and Assign to someone else.

Form controls use at least 16 px text on phones, so the browser does not zoom the page when a signer taps a field.

Payments and attachments

  • Paying by UPI. A payment field shows a QR code and an Open UPI app button. On a phone the button is the quick route: it opens GPay, PhonePe, Paytm or another UPI app. The signer then types the transaction reference. See Collecting payment at signature.
  • Attachments. A field that asks for a file lets the signer choose a PDF, JPG or PNG from their phone. Files must be under 10 MB.

Preparing envelopes on a phone

On a narrow screen the prepare page shows a notice: "This screen is too narrow to place fields accurately." The field boxes and their resize handles are only a few pixels across. You have two good options:

  • open the envelope on a laptop or tablet to place fields, or
  • put anchor tags in the document so the fields position themselves.

Recipients and options (expiry, reminders, signing language) still work on a phone. The app's menu collapses into a drawer opened from the top bar.

Hand your phone to someone

If the signer is in front of you, open the envelope and press Sign in person on this device under their name. See In-person signing, reassignment and witnesses.

On a phone with a patchy connection, the page tells the signer "We couldn't reach the server. Nothing has been lost — check your connection and press Finish again." Nothing they entered is discarded, so they can simply press Finish once the signal returns.

Which browsers?

SignSpry works in any modern browser on a computer, tablet or phone. We do not publish a list of tested versions. JavaScript and cookies need to be on. If something looks wrong, see Which browsers and devices work.
