Declining, and asking questions before signing
How a signer raises an issue without the conversation moving to email.
Comments
A signer can leave a comment on the signing page — a question about a clause, a correction, a request for clarification. You're notified by email and can answer from the envelope page; they're notified of your reply.
The whole exchange sits with the agreement, so six months later the context is still there rather than lost in somebody's inbox.
Declining
If a signer won't sign, they decline with a reason. The envelope moves to declined, remaining recipients are not invited, and you're notified immediately with the reason.
Declining is deliberately a first-class outcome rather than an error. An agreement that was refused, with the reason recorded, is far more useful than one that simply went quiet.
What happens next
You can:
- correct the issue and send a fresh envelope
- set up a workflow that notifies your legal team
automatically whenever anything is declined
- leave it — declined envelopes stay in your records with the full audit trail
