Bringing someone else in, and more signatures later

Ask a colleague to approve or sign before you do, hand a request on, or send a finished document for more signatures.

Ask someone to approve or sign before you

You've been sent a document, but your manager, a partner or your lawyer should see it first. On the signing page open the More options menu (☰) and choose Ask someone to approve or sign first. Give their name and email, say what they should do, and add a message if you like:

  • Review and approve it — they read the document and press Approve. They

don't add anything to it.

  • Sign it as well — a signature box is added next to yours, and they sign

before you do.

They get their own link by email, from you. Until they answer, your link shows Waiting for an answer. When they approve or sign, we email you a fresh link (it replaces the old one) and you sign as usual. If they decline, the document stays open: you get their reason and decide what to do. You can withdraw a request that hasn't been answered, and ask up to three people at a time.

The sender sees all of this on the envelope page, and the certificate of completion names who brought each person in and why.

Hand a request to someone else

If a document reached the wrong person, choose Assign to someone else in the same menu. The new person takes your place — same role, same language — and your link stops working. A request protected by an access code can't be handed on; ask the sender to send it to the right person.

More signatures after it's complete

Sometimes a finished document needs another signature — a second director, a guarantor, a counter-party who joins later. Open the completed envelope, choose More → Get more signatures, and a new draft opens with the signed copy (seal and certificate included) as its document. Add the new people and fields and send it as usual. The two envelopes link to each other, and the new certificate names the earlier envelope and its seal.

For senders

Both signer options are on by default. Switch either off under Admin → Settings: Signers may hand their request to someone else and Signers may ask someone to approve or sign before they do.
