Anchor tags — place fields by writing them into the document
Put a marker like {{sign:1}} in your template and the field lands there automatically.
If you've used DocuSign, this is what they call AutoPlace or anchor text.
Instead of dragging fields onto a page, write a marker into the document itself. When you send, SignSpry finds each marker in the text and puts the right field exactly there. The layout stays correct even when the document changes length.
This is what makes sending through the API practical — the template controls the layout, so nothing has to compute coordinates.
The syntax
Two forms work. Use whichever you find easier to type:
{{sign:1}} {{initial:2}} {{date:1}}
{{text:1|Full name}} {{check:2}}
/s1/ /i2/ /d1/ /t1/ /c2/
The number is the recipient's routing position, starting at 1. So {{sign:2}} belongs to whoever is second in your signing order. For a text field you can add a label after a pipe: {{text:1|GST number}}.
| Marker | Field | |
|---|---|---|
{{sign:n}} or /sn/ | Signature | |
{{initial:n}} or /in/ | Initials | |
{{date:n}} or /dn/ | Date signed | |
| `{{text:n\ | Label}} or /tn/` | Text |
{{check:n}} or /cn/ | Checkbox |
Using them
- Write the markers into your Word or PDF template where the fields should appear.
- Upload it as normal and add your recipients.
- On the prepare screen choose Place fields from anchors. You'll see what was
found, grouped by signer, before anything is applied.
- Apply. Fields appear at the markers, and you can still nudge any of them by hand.
Hiding the markers
Tick hide marker text and SignSpry paints over each marker before sealing, so {{sign:1}} never appears in the finished document.
