Showing T&Cs or brochures without making them part of the signed document
Supplements are view-only PDFs your signers can open but don't sign; signer attachments are files they upload that join the finished document.
There are two different kinds of "extra file", and they behave very differently.
| Supplement (you attach it) | Signer attachment (they upload it) | |
|---|---|---|
| Who adds it | You, while preparing | The signer, while signing |
| Examples | Terms and conditions, a brochure, a disclosure | ID proof, a purchase order, a photo |
| Shown to signers | Yes, to open and read | No, the signer provides it |
| Signed | No | No |
| In the final sealed PDF | No, it stays separate | Yes, appended after the signed pages |
| Formats | PDF only | PDF, JPG or PNG |
Add a supplement
- On the prepare screen, open Attachments for signers in the side panel.
- If you want it to be compulsory, tick Signers must open it before finishing. Tick this first: it applies to the file you attach next.
- Choose + Attach a view-only PDF and pick the file.
You can attach up to five supplements to an envelope, and only while the envelope is still a draft. Each file is cleaned of anything that could run code before it is stored, and the audit trail notes it if something was removed. A × beside a file removes it.
What the signer sees
An Attachments from the sender card lists each file; each opens in a new tab. A compulsory one is marked please open before finishing, and the signer can't complete signing until they have opened every one of those. Every signer on the envelope sees every supplement; document visibility applies to the documents, not to supplements.
What gets recorded
- supplement.added, with the file name and whether it was compulsory.
- supplement.viewed, each time a signer opens a file for the first time in their browser session, with their name and email.
You'll find the files under Supplemental documents on the envelope page.
Collect a file from the signer
Place a File upload field for that signer, label it clearly ("ID proof", "Purchase order"), and mark it required if they can't finish without it.
- Accepted: PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 10 MB each.
- An envelope can hold up to 10 uploaded files in total. If a signer uploads again to the same field, the new file replaces the old one.
- Images are placed on a page of their own. When everyone has signed, the uploaded files are added to the end of the signed pages, before the sealing certificate, so they travel with the agreement.
- Each upload is written to the audit trail as attachment.uploaded, with the file's name and size.
