Hiding documents from some signers

Show each recipient only the documents that concern them.

An envelope can hold up to ten documents. By default everyone sees all of them — but often they shouldn't.

A typical case: an employment packet with the offer letter, the standard handbook acknowledgement, and a schedule showing the whole team's salary bands. The candidate should see the first two and never the third.

Setting it

On the prepare screen, open a recipient and choose Documents this person can see. Tick only the documents they need. Leave every box ticked (the default) and they see everything.

The restriction applies everywhere it needs to:

  • the signing page shows only the permitted pages
  • the PDF that recipient can download contains only those documents
  • fields placed on a hidden document are not sent to them

What it does not do

Document visibility controls what a recipient is shown. It is not a security boundary against a determined attacker who already has a valid signing link and technical skill — treat it as good hygiene, not as encryption.

The completed, sealed PDF contains every document in the envelope. Recipients who receive the finished copy will see all of it. If a document must never reach a party at all, send it as a separate envelope.
