The sandbox — build without emailing real people
Test-mode keys create real envelopes that never reach a real inbox.
Nobody should discover their integration works by accidentally emailing four hundred customers. Test mode gives you a full-fidelity environment inside your own account.
Getting a test key
Under API, create a key and choose test mode. It looks like sk_test_….
What's different
- No email is ever sent. Instead, the API response includes the signing URLs
directly, so your test harness can drive the ceremony.
- Envelopes are badged SANDBOX everywhere in the interface.
- They're excluded from reports, the repository and obligations by default, so your
real numbers stay clean.
- They don't count towards plan limits.
What's identical
Everything else. The same routing, the same fields, the same sealing, the same webhooks, the same audit trail. A sandbox envelope is a real envelope that simply can't reach anyone.
Cleaning up
Filter to sandbox envelopes on the dashboard and delete them in bulk when you're done.
A test key cannot touch live envelopes, and a live key cannot touch sandbox ones. That separation is enforced on the server — you can't accidentally cross the streams by changing one variable.
